Let’s turn the focus to budget TVs this time around. With all the 4K, UDH, Smart and 3D models out there, one can’t help but wonder will they be able to afford the next TV they’re going to get. Good news is that there are still budget TVs from renowned manufacturers available, and the UN50J5000 is one such device. It will blend nicely into nearly any living space, it’s large enough and it has many of the features one might look for in a TV.

Design – Basic but Nice and Elegant

To be honest, unless the TV is curved there isn’t much to say about the design. The frame runs nicely along the display. The typical black color guarantees that the TV will blend into any living space, and the frame is very subtle, almost unnoticeable when the TV is on.

The UN50J5000 features a 50 inch screen size, putting it in the upper middle class when it comes to screen sizes. Users usually prefer similar sizes due to them fitting into most rooms. Samsung has included an option to mount the TV on the wall in case you don’t like the floating illusion the stand might cause.

Specs – Great for a Budget TV Like This One

Being a budget TV, it would be unfair to expect of the UN50J5000 to pack a lot of firepower under the hood. However, not being a Smart TV, it doesn’t need to. It has all the features and equipment the standard user might require, making it suitable for a hefty number of households.

Full HD resolution paired with Effective 60 CMR “refresh rate” make the device suitable in a number of applications, even when it comes to playing video games on it, whether on console, or hooking the TV up to the computer and use it as a second monitor. Either way, the experience will be both natural and satisfying. Wide Color Enhancer does a great job brining colors to life.

This provides the user with a much better overall experience, as well as keeps the strain on the eyes low so long TV marathons can be enjoyed. ConnectShare feature is also available in order to enjoy content directly from the USB, hard drive, etc. Internet connection is required in order to access content that might be stored on the home network. If you are interested in how the screen performs when viewed under different viewing angles, you’re in for a treat. Being a 50 inch TV, one might expect that it cannot handle extreme viewing angles, and while the display does dim under such angles, it is still viewable. Under smaller angles, people can easily sit around the TV in the arc formation, without the experience being negatively affected for anyone.

UN50J5000 Price, Sound and Connectivity – More Than Enough Options at More Than Reasonable Price

The UN50J5000 will set you back around $600 at most resellers. Price to performance ratio goes in favor of the device as it is a high quality TV. Granted, the lack of the Smart functionality is a bit disappointing, but quite a lot of users opt in for some of the available streaming devices over a Smart functionality anyway.

This basically means that despite the majority of us having the Smart functionality available, we hardly ever use it. DTS Premium Sound is able to create a remarkable surround sound experience without any static or interferences. There is no need for additional speakers, though some might consider acquiring them if they want to enjoy movies and music at high sound levels. Apart from the ConnectShare which we have already mentioned, the UN50J5000 has 2 HDMI ports and an USB port at the user’s disposal.

It wouldn’t hurt to have a higher amount of ports available, but it seems Samsung has found this amount to be optimal, as this is featured on a lot of their models.
